Troy Show Review

Last month Christine and I were invited to attend the “Troy Means Business” show held in the new wing at the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit. Troy (UK) Ltd was founded 25 years ago to embody the ability to use the collective buying power of the members to improve their prices and become more competitive. Troy’s vision is to be the most effective buying organization for independent distributors operating in the UK and Ireland. Their 25th Anniversary Show brought together 100 suppliers and was attended by around 75% of their membership. The comments we heard from the exhibitors on the day were enthusiastic and positive. For example, Graham Wade from Draper, one of the shows sponsors, commented “It was a well organised

and professional show with great attendance and we very much look forward to next years event.” Trading on the day was brisk.Martin Aplin from Metabo said, “This was the first event where

Metabo displayed our new 4.0Ah Cordless product and from the members response on the day it’s clear that market demand for our new cordless range is growing fast. The TROY event was a great success for Metabo and hopefully for the members too - it was well planned, well executed, a great venue and the whole dynamic of the day and evening illustrated a real step change in TROY’s activity as a buying group.” Gerard Herbert from Carl

Kammerling International went on to say, “The Silverstone Show proved to be the most successful Troy event that Carl Kammerling has attended in many years. A high number of members visited the Carl Kammerling stand with main interest shown in the new CK-Magma range. This show was a great opportunity to demonstrate CK - Magma products which have an

extensive range. At the show this was complimented with POS material and a dedicated display stand”. Edward White from Rollins

commented, ”What a great venue for a trade show, this meant it was well attended by both visitors and exhibitors. Rollins Group was delighted to show Arrow Fastening products at this year’s Troy Trade Show. The range with a reputation for quality is now part of the Rollins portfolio.” Here at ToolBUSINESS+HIRE

Magazine we were made to feel very welcome both at the show and the evening event held at Whittlebury Hall nearby and were pleased to be part of such a successful trade exhibition. During the evening, awards were presented to some of the participants in the added attraction of the day – racing round the historic Stowe Circuit at Silverstone, including some less serious categories! Vicki Butler- Henderson from Channel 5’s Fifth Gear handed out prizes to Paul Edwards, for Fastest Driver of a Ferrari 360, Jim Mundy for Fastest Driver of a Nissan GT-R and Mark Hyde for Fastest Driver of a Nissan 370Z. There were also awards for the Best Cone Destroyer: Chris Guy, the Best Flymo Moment: Nickla Singh, the Best Crash: Paul Kilbride and the Best Facial Expression: International Man of Mystery. An F1 Simulator was available for entertainment within the Exhibition Hall and Brad Simpson won the Fastest Lap on this. With guest speaker Martin Vander Weyer, Business Editor of The Spectator and comedian Josh Daniels rounding off the evening the Gala dinner was an enjoyable occasion following a busy and successful day.

David Peacock, Director at Troy (UK) Ltd had this to say:- “Well what an event! I cannot express how proud I am of everyone involved in

making Troy Means Business 2012 the best event we’ve ever held. The adrenaline was really flowing and members were placing so many more orders, it was very exciting. The whole day was a fantastic success from the exhibition through to the gala dinner. At the end of the day, this event is a trading platform and the whole environment was conducive to placing more orders. We had high hopes of this being a great event, but to see £1million of business being conducted was phenomenal.” “My thanks also go

out to our sponsors – Dormer Tools, Draper Tools, Makita and Toolbank. These companies trusted in us and took a leap of faith in the project and we couldn’t have done such a great job without their support.”
