2012/13 ITM update
KEEPING UP WITH GENERATION Y
AS A RECENT CONVERT to the iPhone from my trusted and sometimes-missed Blackberry, I am now trying to get my head around music in the “cloud” as I face the prospect, for the second time, of having to build my music collection again after another laptop crash – yes, I know I should have backed it up, but that’s where the cloud comes in, apparently! I dabble on Twitter and use Linked In frequently, but when I remember to check my Facebook page I sometimes feel as though the younger members of my family are talking in code, so maybe I am not quite keeping up with Generation Y. They do
the event or, even if you’re not, we will, of course, keep you updated throughout on Twitter. ITM’s partner, GBTA Europe,
has also recently announced that Max Keegan, an impressive 17-year-old, will take to the stage at their European conference in September to present a case study of how “digital natives”, otherwise referred to as Generation Y, think about technology, social networks and their approach to the workplace culture and sustainability. amaze me the way they can pick up any piece of technology, at any age, and know straightaway how it works. Unlike us, technology is more than just an extension of how they live their lives, it is how they survive in today’s world. At the ITM Conference taking
place this month in Manchester, we will be reviewing the latest technology and apps in the ITM Travel Gadget Show – of course, presented by our own Generation Y of the future travel industry. You could call some of these apps life-savers, and certainly time-savers, as we will review the latest in procurement and travel applications, including mobile and touchless technology. Have our lives become so busy that we are now relying on technology to work for us when on the run? Like I said, this is the norm for Generation Y. We will plan to share with you in a future edition who the favourite frontrunners were and if you are attending
communication methodologies. When we were thinking about keynote speakers we wanted a social commentator to help set the scene, but thought rather than have a 40-year- old tell us what a 17-year-old thinks, we would find someone born to Generation Y who can do it instead.” So to ensure you keep up with the latest from Generation Y, check out these events…
