Hampton, NH — We have been fortunate in these economic times when budgets are being slashed to continue to have a top-notch motor unit. The Police Motor unit has been around since the early 1900s but became specialized in 1986. At this time more formalized training was instituted using instructors from the Northwestern University program. Since then motor offi cers in the Town of Hampton, New Hampshire, have proved to the commu- nity the invaluable presence of having a motorcycle unit which consists of Harley-Davidson®
Road King® police
models. The town becomes a resort community during the summer when the population increases from 20,000 to over 100,000. Due to a heavy call volume and traffi c the motorcycle offi cers are the fi rst to respond to all the major calls for service. We currently have 24 certifi ed offi cers. We recently completed a basic operator school where fi ve new offi cers passed the rigorous course. We could not have maintained our program without the assistance of Phil Miles, who is employed by Seacoast Harley-Davidson in North Hampton, New Hampshire, where he is in charge of the police motorcycle division. Phil has always assisted our department when called upon by lending us training motorcycles and servicing our fl eet during training. We greatly appreciate all of Seacoast Harley-Davidson’s assistance. Submitted by Sgt. Steven Henderson.
