MUSIC
DIPLO ‘128 BEATS PER MINUTE’ UNIVERSE
FROM uncovering funk Carioca in Brazil to fl ogging Blackberrys and working with Tiësto, the man known as Diplo is a restless soul indeed. So it makes sense that he decided to bring photographer (and friend) Shane McCauley along with him on his travels. Covering thirty-two countries over a seven-year period, this new book
is a glimpse into the life not just of a DJ, but one who has consistently looked for new forms of emerging dance music in far-fl ung climes. Any excuse to get a tan, eh? Major Lazer also set off on a UK tour next week starting in Manchester at the HMV Ritz on April 18th. Sorry Wesley, don’t expect sun there...
GUY J
THERE seems to be something in the Israeli air that breeds an ear for an emotive melody (especially if you’re called Guy). With a born touch for deeply textured techno and mood-moulding house, Guy J was handpicked by John Digweed to join Bedrock, a modern-day purveyor of the progressive legacy. Yet he’s equally as adept at spinning this into
tougher forms, as his affi liation with Tiga’s Turbo Records testifi es, as well as a more recent release for Sven Väth’s Cocoon. It’s a touch demonstrated on his podcast, which combines plenty of his own productions with the likes of Webbha and Maya Jane Coles.
