Allen & Overy continues growth Steven E. Adkins
Allen & Overy has announced that Steven E. Adkins has joined its Washington, DC, office as a partner in the US litigation group and the global IP practice, which comprises around 100 IP partners and lawyers in offices in
the US, Europe and Asia Pacific.
Adkins is a trial lawyer specialising in Section 337 investigations involving patent infringement in international trade and other unfair trade issues before the International Trade Commission (ITC) and at US Customs.
“Our global practice provides clients with exceptional IP services in the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific,” said Michael Feldberg, head of the US litigation practice. “Te ITC is being increasingly used as a forum to raise IP disputes. Steve’s vast experience representing clients in Section 337 patent infringement investigations will be invaluable to Allen & Overy’s clients in the US as well as around the world.”
Adkins has served as lead trial counsel representing both respondents and complainants based in Asia, Europe and the US in Section 337 investigations involving various technologies, such as chemicals, computer soſtware, telecommunications, mechanical patents and semiconductors. He also has represented clients in matters before various state and federal appellate courts, including the US Supreme Court.
Adkins joins Allen & Overy from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, where he co-chaired its Section 337 ITC Practice.
McKenna Long & Aldridge completes merger
McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP merged with California-based Luce Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP on March 6.
Te combined firm will be known as McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP and will have more than 575 attorneys and public policy advisors. Tey will form 18 practices, be based in 13 offices and operate in 11 markets.
Te firm's new IP practice now includes more than 50 IP attorneys, patent litigators and patent agents. Te merger with Luce Forward has added patent prosecutors with technical and scientific backgrounds, trademark and copyright prosecutors and licensing specialists, as well as corporate and tax attorneys who are familiar with intellectual property issues, to McKenna Long & Alridge's IP practice.
“Our merger is about creating more value for our clients through an expanded network of attorneys and public policy advisers whose experience and expertise are exponentially more powerful when working together,” said McKenna Long & Alridge chairman Jeff Haidet.

Justin White
Haynes and Boone LLP has announced that Justin White has joined its IP practice group as counsel. White is based at the firm’s Silicon Valley, California, office, and moves to Haynes and Boone
from Beyer Law Group LLP.
White has experience in strategic patent portfolio planning and management, negotiating and drafting IP licences and other related agreements, as well as providing formal opinions on patents and other IP issues and patent litigation in district courts, the ITC and the Federal Circuit.
White’s practice focuses primarily on preparing and prosecuting patent applications in mechanical, electrical and soſtware technologies. Commenting on his appointment, Gary J. Edwards, partner in the IP practice group, said: “We are excited Justin is joining the firm. His extensive experience and knowledge is a complement to our existing team and the resources we provide for our clients.”
Swiss firms team up
Swiss law firms meyerlustenberger and Lachenal & Le Fort have merged, they announced in March.
Te two firms have combined their offices in Swiss cities Zurich, Geneva, Zug and Lausanne, as well as in Brussels, Belgium, to form Meyerlustenberger Lachenal. Te new firm has 85 lawyers and ranks as one of the largest law firms in Switzerland.
“Clients want our lawyers to be specialised and to have a profound understanding of their business and the legal issues related to it. It is the board's top priority to organize the practice teams in order to take advantage of the firm's enlarged knowledge pool,” said Meyerlustenberger Lachenal partner Tomas Lustenberger.
Te firm's IP practice covers patents and pharmaceutical law, as well as trademarks, designs and advertising.
Attorneys Philippe Prost and Nicolas Didisheim have also joined the new firm. Tey were formerly partners with meyerlustenberger’s associated office in Geneva.
