New partner for Salans’ Frankfurt office
Peter Homberg
International law firm Salans LLP has appointed Peter Homberg as a partner to its German intellectual property, technology and communications practice group. He is based in the Frankfurt office.
Homberg is an expert in advising the pharmaceutical, diagnostics and biotechnology industry on a broad range of legal matters. He specialises in R&D, licence and cooperation agreements, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory issues and the implementation of practice standards. He also has significant experience in working on private equity matters.
Homberg has joined Salans from Raupach & Wollert-Elmendorff, where he was the head of the life sciences practice group.

EIP strengthens IP litigation practice
Intellectual property firm EIP has appointed IP lawyer Robert Lundie-Smith from McDermott Will & Emery UK LLP (MWE) in London.

the IP litigation practice, EIP legal, and will work alongside the head of EIP legal, Gary Moss, who joined the firm in October 2011 from MWE.
Lundie-Smith worked alongside Moss at MWE for almost three years after joining that firm from the Bar in early 2009. At the Bar, Lundie-Smith had been instructed before the Patents County Court and the High Court, including as junior counsel in the trials of Armour Group Plc v Leisuretech Electronics Pty Ltd and Vestergaard Frandsen AS & Anor v Bestnet Europe Ltd & Ors.
King & Wood gets in-house patent counsel

Lundie-Smith’s practice focuses on contentious and non-contentious IP matters. He has extensive experience in advising in disputes (both High Court and Court of Appeal) relating to patents, trademarks, copyright, designs and confidential information in several industries.
He also has experience of proceedings before the Court of Justice of the European Union and has been involved in actions concerning special protection certificates.
EIP Legal deals with all aspects of IP litigation and dispute resolution, licensing, technology transfers and commercial agreements, with particular technical expertise in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, telecommunications and information technology.

Prior to joining King & Wood, Dr Ren was a senior patent counsel to Johnson & Johnson and she practised IP law for more than a decade in New York city.

Covington to open Seoul office
Covington & Burling LLP has applied to open a new office in Seoul, Korea, and has hired William H.Y. Park, a veteran corporate lawyer based in Korea, to help oversee the expansion.
Park will work closely with former Ambassador to the United Nations Daniel Spiegel, senior counsel at Covington, who will be the foreign legal consultant of the new office.
“William has deep experience helping Korean and other Asian clients do business in the Americas, Europe and the Middle East,” said Timothy Hester, chair of the firm’s management committee. “We expect William and Dan to be at the core of our team in Korea, advising global clients on a broad range of cross-border issues.”
For the past 12 years, Park has worked in Korea, handling general corporate matters and serving as the team leader on antitrust investigations in the US and the EU, and on IP and general litigation involving the US.
“Covington is already well known for helping Korean firms do business in the US, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. I expect that we will substantially expand the Korean client base over the next few years,” Park said.
Park is a native of Korea. He graduated with distinction from Stanford Law School in 1988 after earning his Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from MIT in 1985. Park will be based in Seoul, along with Ambassador Spiegel, when the office is approved later this year. Covington, which
