GCI sold
rides to Power Park in Finland, Freizeitpark Plohn in Germany, and Toverland and Efteling in the Netherlands. So we had some nice coasters to try out, and this made it easier for me to convince the family
Michael Mack
family did not encounter many major obstacles when it came to securing planning permission. As a concession to locals in what is rather rural neighbourhood, urethane wheels were used by GCI for the first time to reduce train noise. In tests using steel wheels, the ride ran eight seconds faster, but only a select group of GCI and Mack employees ever got to experience it at such lightening speed! Each of three trains seats 24 people, providing hourly capacity for 1,250 passengers. Gobbling up those sorts of numbers will be easy for a park that welcomed well over 4 million guests in 2011. “It depends on the weather of course,” says Mack,
”
“but we certainly want to reach the same figures this year, if not exceed them by 200,000.” Over 200 additional hotel rooms will be available for Europa-Park guests this season with the opening of the new Bell Rock hotel in July. The 4-star superior property will feature a New England – rather than European – theme. “Actually the name comes from a Scottish lighthouse, so there is a kind of European influence,” explains Mack, “but we think New England is a good theme and symbolises a new era of theming for the hotels, but certainly not the park. Everyone is asking why we put in an American theme, and we joke that is because my dad has become chairman of IAAPA!” Two continents for the price of one? Sounds like a
deal!
