Sniggle Hunt at Yogi Bear’s

Yogi Bear’s Camp Resort in California is one of the latest visitor attractions to install an electronic scavenger hunt.

The Sniggle Hunt product from Veqtor UK encourages players to hunt around the camp in Jellystone Park with a simple hand held device looking for Sniggle terminals. Every time they find one, they receive points and a fun message about recycling, conservation or the environment. Sometimes they get bonus points, but players must also beware of the “sleeping” Sniggle points, which deliver no points at all, unless you return when they are awake. The hunt can also be timed, creating a mad dash to find as many Sniggles as possible in the allotted time.

Sniggle Hunt provides a unique adventure which can be enjoyed again and again, making it an attractive income source for attractions operators. Simple and easy install and operate, it boasts very low running costs. The game’s engaging back story can be replaced by custom content if required. Following the installation of Sniggle Hunt this winter at the Yogi Bear’s Camp Resort, Veqtor is negotiations with a European holiday resort provider about rolling out the system to a number of sites. Electronic scavenger hunts appear to be a hot product right now within the attractions industry. Quassy to expand waterpark

Saturation Station, the popular waterpark feature at Quassy Amusement Park, Middlebury, Connecticut, is going to spring a major leak. Four new attractions will be added for the 2013 season – nearly doubling the size of the facility. Construction is expected to start late this summer.

Three huge waterslides will be at the heart of the project including a BulletBowl tube slide and two

FreeFall bodyslides, all from ProSlide Technology. For toddlers, Quassy will also install what it has named Splash Away Bay, a 2,000-square-foot Splashpad by Vortex Aquatic Structures International. All of the new attractions will be located adjacent to the existing Saturation Station water play area on land vacated by the removal of the Monster Mad Mouse coaster at the end of the 2010 season.

Great Wolf agrees merger with Apollo

Great Wolf Resorts, operator of the Great Wolf Lodge indoor waterparks/hotel chain in North America, has agreed to a merger with Apollo Global Management. Apollo, a leading global asset manager, is likely to acquire Great Wolf for approximately $703 million ($5.00 per share), including the assumption of the company’s outstanding debt. The transaction has been unanimously recommended by Great Wolf’s’ board of directors, but is not without criticism from some stockholders, who feel the offer undervalues the company. A leader in indoor waterparks and family destination resorts, Great Wolf now operates 11 properties in the USA and Canada. The first Great Wolf Lodge resort opened in 1997 in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin and each facility typically features between 300 and 600 rooms and a large indoor entertainment area measuring 40,000 to 100,000 square feet. The all-suite properties offer a variety of room configurations, in addition to arcade/game rooms, fitness rooms, themed restaurants, spas, supervised children’s activities – and of course a large undercover waterpark.
