Gardening is therapy for the mind, body and spirit
he therapeutic value of gardening has become so well recognized that it now supports a professional
occupation known as “horticultural therapy” and is represented throughout the United States by the American Horticultural Therapy Association. Cynthia Hendry, proprietor of Woodland
Gardens, has helped hundreds of her Big Canoe neighbors make a garden and gardening an important part of their lives. If asked, she will tell you about the
therapeutic value she receives every time she steps foot into her own garden. As a former manager in the high-stress world of medical management, she makes a point of ensuring she maintains her physical, spiritual and emotional balance, and much of that comes from her garden. “Experts claim the therapeutic benefits of gardening have been recognized since
