There are a number of ways that a laboratory may choose to do this, but by far the best is for it to seek international accreditation, as this will help demonstrate that the said laboratory is measured against very high professional standards and that it is in significant compliance with them.”
Accreditation means that medical laboratory services have
been assessed against internationally recognised standards to demonstrate their competence, impar tiality and performance capability. For the commissioners of healthcare services, accreditation is a tool that provides assurance that medical laboratory services are safe, reliable and good value for patients. It also provides a mechanism for measuring quality improvements and suppor ting consistency. Accreditation gives patients confidence that the services they
