have nice images of No. 1995 (Chicago & North Western) at a Diesel Days event at the Illinois Railway Museum, but on the road I have a big goose egg.


It will be interesting to see if NS follows UP’s practice of putting a heritage unit on the point of a consist where practical and keeping the heritage units somewhat con- fined to their “home” paint scheme territory. Summer trips to Horseshoe Curve to get a Pennsy pinstriped unit or up to the Water Level Route in search of New York Central lightning stripes or down looking for that very nice Interstate unit will definitely be in order should the units become territorial. Rail artist Andy Fletcher — you’ve seen his work on locomotive magnets that are for sale in numerous tourist railroad and muse- um gift shops — drew up a set of NS her- itage units for his Facebook page to cele- brate the railroad’s 30th anniversary. He took requests for what NS heritage roads he should draw, and of course I had to mention my old hometown railroad Pennsylvania- Reading Seashore Lines (which he drew and placed on an NS heritage poster he made up). While numerous people have suggested a heritage program for NS, it wasn’t until CEO Wick Moorman saw Andy’s poster that the idea really got some legs. Sadly, my PRSL unit didn’t make the final cut for NS paint schemes (you can see the final list and Andy’s artwork for each in RAILNEWS.) I’m going to guess that, other than a trip to Iowa for the NRHS Convention in June, that I’ll be spending a lot of time along Norfolk Southern this summer. Maybe I’ll see you there.


 
