Cedar Rapids Breaks Ground on Convention Complex The City of Cedar Rapids, IA is build- ing a new downtown convention com- plex, which includes the renovation of the attached U.S. Cellular Center arena and the former Crowne Plaza Five Sea- sons Hotel. The complex will be com- pleted in Spring 2013 and will include a renovated 238-room hotel.

Chicago Hotels Pledge $500 Million Refurbishment to Attract Tradeshows Recently, a group of Chicago hotels pledged to make more than $500 million worth of improvements to their facilities to help boost the city’s convention and exhibition industry. Crowne Plaza Cleveland City Centre Hotel Plans $64 Million Renovation Optima Ventures and Sage Hospitality have partnered to purchase the Crowne Plaza Cleveland City Centre. They will convert the property into a 481-room Westin. The hotel will undergo more than $64 million in upgrades, including the complete remodel of all guestrooms.

$22 Million Conventions Expansion at Kalahari Resort in Sandusky Ohio’s largest convention center re- sort is getting even larger. A $22 million expansion will more than double the size of the Kalahari Convention Center in Sandusky, expected to open December 2011 with a 120,000 sq. ft. addition.
