Nikwax - TX. Direct 11.1 wash-in waterproofer
They say: The world’s no.1 high performance waterproofing for breathable waterproof clothing that is easy, safe and quick to use in a washing machine. Fluorocarbon-free, solvent- free and no tumble drying required. GWA highlight: I’ve used TX.Direct to re-proof an old jacket before now and it works superbly. The 11.1 version lasts 5x longer than their original version, which according to Nikwax is 6- 7 wash cycles. In practice, for a very heavily used garment, you might need to re-proof areas where straps rub once a year. 100ml of TX.Direct is enough to treat one jacket. GWA summary: Breathe life back into your ailing breathable waterproof clothing by treating the outer layer to a new water repellency, and allowing the membrane to do its job properly. It’s cheaper than a new jacket, non-toxic, non-polluting and makes you smell a bit like a candle for a day or so. What’s not to like?

Falke - Naima women’s pullover base layer
They say: Circular knitted zip-pullover with close-fitting cut and particularly adjusted climate zones. GWA highlight: One of my favourite things was the generous length of the sleeves. I’m not sure if I have unusually long arms, or if sleeves are generally cut a bit on the short side in ladieswear, but there were no such problems here. The sleeves tucked comfortably into my gloves, meaning no exposed, frostbitten wrists by the time I got to the office. (Speaking of the sleeves, they’re marked with a ‘L’ and ‘R’ at the wrists. I’ve never had a problem
identifying my left and right before, but it could be a bonus for some!) GWA summary: An all-purpose base layer that’s cool, comfortable and has the added flexibility of a zip. Not particularly warm on its own, but enough to keep the chill off on a moderate day. Like the Falke socks I reviewed recently, it’s a bit beyond my usual price range for this kind of item, but by paying a bit extra you get some sleek styling and extra features beyond your bog-standard base layer. I’d definitely be happy wearing this.

Bobble - Water Bottle with Filter
They say: Bobble is a stylish, reusable bottle that filters water as you drink, using an ingenious replaceable carbon filter. When water passes through the filter, the carbon removes chlorine and organic contaminants. Bobble is intended for municipal tap water making water better, with every sip.
GWA highlight: The manufacturers claim that the filter will last for 300 bottle fills which is an impressive figure and makes this feel a cost effective option. (It also gives you plenty of time to decide which colour you might want next!) GWA summary: The price is £9 for the standard sized bottle which includes your first filter, filter refills seem to be in the £6/£7 region which, as you’ll only be buying 1 or 2 feels like a reasonable fee. I notice from the website that they also do the bottle in a kids size and have a variety of other related products. I suspect this won’t be the last Bobble product in our home as I really am super pleased and impressed with it.
