Baselayer products to ease

The sports and outdoor market is awash with varieties of baselayers making it diffi cult for consumers to make an informed choice as to what to buy. This also poses questions for the retailer in what to stock.

B

aselayers, performance undergarments, compression sportswear, you name it. The industry is full of garments designed to aid performance and reduce the time it takes for muscles to recover.

As someone who works within the sports industry, I occasionally struggle in diff erentiating between brand product ranges. For the average customer looking for a product, the baselayer market is a minefi eld. This is also problematic for retailers deciding which products to stock. Siding with the well-established brands is one way; alternatively looking for products off ering something that little bit diff erent to what is currently available on the market may be the key. For retailers looking for a budget product to stock, teamwear specialists Team Colours have diversifi ed into the baselayer market with a variation on the traditional baselayer and performance undergarment. “Here at Team Colours we are off ering a unique variation to any other

product,” said Team Colours Frazer Wilson. “Our customer performance tops can be tailored to include a hood and thumb holes, making them suitable for jogging and fi tness training, as well as a range of team sports. “ The baselayers are available in 20 colours with diff erent bespoke

features to fi t specifi c requirements. The custom appeal may make this garment an option for men and women in a variety of team and individual sports. As teamwear is popular for retailers as less cash fl ow is tied up in stock, the custom teamwear baselayers should be considered for retailers who are not looking to commit large sums of money into new product ranges. The range may also appeal to consumers looking for an economical

product in times of tough fi nancial restraint. The hooded baselayer for instance is a well-priced piece starting at RRP £24.00. The pick of the more established baselayer brand products appears

to be the Skins A200 range. Backed by endorsements in various medical journals and recommended by the Australian Physiotherapy Association, the range has a number of scientifi c benefi ts that retailers can use as a tool to help sell the products to retailers. Within the A200, there are compression levels engineered to provide

the correct levels of surface pressure to specifi c parts of the body, enhancing blood circulation. This delivers more oxygen to the muscles and boosts performance by reducing lactic acid build up. Sports enthusiasts at all level will therefore be able to compete or train at a more advanced level. The A200 range encompasses 14 individual garments and should be used to capitalise on consumers interested in the sciences behind sporting products. Not all consumers are interested in this side of things but for those who are, Skins are certainly worth considering. As well as price and technology, environmental product features need

to be considered by retailers. Take the new Greentec Evolution baselayer collection from Odlo. The new environmentally friendly range is made from 100% recycled materials including old car seats, advertising fl ags and banners and old drinks bottles. The benefi ts of recycled polyester are numerous. By lessening the dependence on oil, reducing toxic emissions from incinerators and creating less air, water and soil contamination, Odlo are confi dent of their new collection being a success with both retailers and customers alike. There are other brands out there as well as the ones mentioned

who are off ering something that little bit diff erent when it comes to baselayer products. Stocking unique items and having suitable product knowledge on hand can help you navigate the minefi eld that is the baselayer market.
