The destination is experiencing a flurry of infrastructure development, from new airports to convention centers, and in November 2011 the Malaysia Convention&Exhi- bition Bureau (MyCEB) announced a new branding cam- paign positioning Malaysia as Asia’s chief hub for business events.To complement the new campaign and tagline,“Malaysia —Asia’s Business Events Hub,” the bureau has launched a new website andQRcode to commu- nicate the destination’s message. “Our primary focus is to posi-
tion Malaysia as a microcosm of Asian cultures and the entry point for international organizations wanting to engage with the world’s largest and fastest-grow- ing economic region through business events,” said James Dawos Mamit, Malaysia’s deputy tourism minister. In July 2011, the Institute of Internal Auditors experienced

tion Centre, in the heart of Malaysia’s capital, is an award- winning facility consisting of two auditoriums (seating 3,000 and 500, respectively), a 104,480- square-foot exhibition hall, 20 meeting rooms, a ballroom with the capacity to seat 2,000 people, a banquet hall for up to 500 guests, and a conference hall for 1,800. The center is also the first in Asia—and one of only 12 AIPC centers worldwide—to receive AIPC Quality Standards
certification. By the end of 2012, the center will debut an additional 108,000 square feet of meeting space, which is expected to boost the center’s revenue by 40 percent.
MALAYSIA RISING: Kuala Lumpur International Airport will open a new terminal for low-cost carriers this year, and the city plans to build a Mass Rapid Transit system by 2020. Countrywide, more than 14 hotels are projected to open between now and 2016, including the 412-room Grand Hyatt and the 208-room St. Regis in Kuala Lumpur, and the 360-room UCSI City Island Hotel in Kuching.
