Cornish Mining was awarded World Heritage Site status partly because of the impact its innovative technologies had on the world. It is exciting for us to be able to continue the theme of innovation by presenting Cornish Mining in this modern, digital format.

On 13th July 2006, 20,000 hectares across both Cornwall and West Devon were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, placing Cornish mining heritage on a par with international treasures like Machu Pichu, the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China.
Discover the Extraordinary
‘Discover the Extraordinary’ is a three- year series of investments designed to enhance the visitor experience in the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site (CMWHS) and at its partner attractions. It also aims to increase the number of tourists interested in culture and heritage who visit the Heritage Site Areas from outside the region. The project runs until May 2013 and is designed to leave a legacy for the constituent elements of the CMWHS and to provide resources for businesses, attractions and individuals in the CMWHS catchment area. Cornish Mining is a story that is as much about the people as the industry they worked in and it continues to be so.
