AL TOURETTES ‘INVENTING’ SNEAKER SOCIAL CLUB
HAVING moved to Bristol, it’s no surprise that Sneaker Social Club boss Jamie Russell is now championing some of the city’s resident and criminally underrated artists such as Al Tourettes. Excelling in freeform electronics that owe as much to vintage Warp as the current landscape of bass-driven experimentation,
‘Inventing’ is off his forthcoming ‘Habit Inventing’ EP (no prizes for guessing what the fl ipside is called) and hammers out sheets of cast iron bass before etching them with cryptic sci-fi hieroglyphics, a line of mental imagery not that far off the tune’s superbly rendered video.
WEST NORWOOD CASSETTE LIBRARY DJWEEKLY PODCAST #72
THERE aren’t many DJs or producers who really carve out their own niche sound but West Norwood Cassette Library and his WNCL Recordings have been doing just that, wowing us with a blend of lo-fi grit and futuristic vision. DJing entirely off vinyl and freshly pressed dubplates, his style crosses raw house, techno, garage and breakbeat, roughly hewn and thrown together off the cuff. Introducing new and unreleased tracks
from the likes of Karenn and Randomer, plus a forthcoming label track from Kevin McPhee, his podcast exudes a rugged charm and ceaseless energy which, in our opinion, is quite like nobody else out there.
