The Texas Medicine Continuing Medical Education Program

The Texas Medicine continuing medical education program Implementation of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD)-10 code set (replacing the ICD-9 set used to re- port diagnoses and inpatient procedures) requires significant changes to clinical and administrative systems that report diagnosis codes. Physician practices need to implement the ICD-10 codes and report them in all transactions for encounters or discharges on or after the implementation deadline, Oct. 1, 2013, as mandated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Physicians should analyze their systems and work processes that will be impacted by ICD- 10 and identify changes needed to meet the compliance date. This CME activity will educate physicians about, and pre- pare them for, ICD-10.

Accreditation The Texas Medical Association is ac- credited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to pro- vide continuing medical education for physicians.

Hour designation TMA designates this enduring activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. This course has been desig- nated by TMA for 1 credit of education in medical ethics and/or professional re- sponsibility. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This credit is available for the period of Feb. 1, 2012, to Feb. 1, 2013.
