TMA prepares young physicians to become effective leaders

“Patients have always looked to their physicians for guidance,” says TMA

President C. Bruce Malone, MD. That’s why TMA developed the TMA Leader- ship College (TMALC). “The nine-month intensive leadership

program provides a solid foundation for today’s young physicians to become tomorrow’s medical leaders,” adds Dr. Malone. “And with more and more phy- sicians becoming community and civic leaders at both county and state levels, these young physicians will have many opportunities to use the leadership skills they are learning.” The first part of their training, a four-

day leadership “boot camp,” was held in conjunction with the 2011 TMA Fall Conference in Austin. The program will culminate with a graduation ceremony in May at TexMed 2012 in Dallas. The following physicians make up the TMALC class of 2012:

• John Cole, DO, Abilene, general sur- geon;

• Rouzbeh Khosrovi Kordestani, MD, Amarillo, cosmetic surgeon;

• Kimberly C. Avila Edwards, MD, Aus- tin, pediatrics;

Fewer No-Shows.

Medicaid’s transportation services are free and available to Texas Health Steps patients and most others who use Medicaid medical and dental benefits. The services include rides to the doctor or dentist when a patient has no other means of transportation.

That means fewer missed appointments, fewer no-shows, and healthier patients.

To reach the HHSC medical transportation help desk, call 1-877 MED-TRIP (1-877-633-8747).
