Freight’s Global 100

Kim Fejfer A

CEO, APM Terminals

long-time Maersk employee, one of APM Terminals CEO Kim Fejfer’s primary roles is to develop the Danish group’s terminal operating

subsidiary into a truly independent firm. While port operations were previously seen as

having a purely strategic value to the group’s wider container shipping ambitions, in recent years it has changed course, and the terminal operations are now conceived as a standalone business. But it is not all about returns. The company’s recent

activity has seen it focus heavily on emerging markets and exit ports in which it had a minority stake, however profitable those may be. It is also assuming control of Maersk’s hinterland operations. Fejfer joined the AP Møller group in 1992 and has

had a variety of roles with Maersk, including stints in Indonesia, Japan and the US. He was appointed CEO of APM Terminals in 2004 and

became a member of the AP Møller-Maersk executive board in 2011.

Brandon Fried Executive Director, Airforwarders Association B

randon Fried was appointed to serve as the executive director of the Airforwarders Association in November 2005.

Fried has more than 25 years’ experience in the air

freight industry. He started his career as a sales representative in Los Angeles before moving to Washington, where he opened, owned and operated the Washington office of Adcom Worldwide, a global freight forwarder specialising in time-definite air cargo transport. In 2000 Fried joined the Airforwarders Association

and was elected as chairman in 2001, serving two consecutive terms. In August 2005, he sold his interest in Adcom Worldwide and began consulting for air cargo companies on business strategy and management practices. Fried represents the Airforwarders Association on

security matters, and currently serves on the Aviation Security Advisory Committee (ASAC) working group, as counsel to the Transportation Security Administration, and it is in this latter role that he can be expected to substantially influence logistics.

Karl Ulrich Garnadt Board member, Lufthansa Cargo K

arl Ulrich Garnadt was appointed head of Lufthansa Cargo at the start of 2011, and has served on the board since 2007.

He has worked at Lufthansa for 32 years, helping to

shape it into one of the world’s leading airlines. He became product manager for Lufthansa Cargo in

1991, responsible for the UK, Ireland and Northern Europe before becoming area manager Europe. In 1995 he was in charge of network management

for the cargo division. Garnadt has been vocal about the challenges of

implementing the US’s air cargo security programmes, and is a supporter of the industry’s e-freight initiative. Voted Cargo Airline of the Year in 2011, Lufthansa

Cargo has a fleet of 18 MD-11Fs with orders for five Boeing 777-200Fs. In 2010 it transported 1.8m tonnes of freight and mail and reported 8.9bn revenue tonne kilometres.
