technological shifts in recent years, not just because it means changing entire IT models from on-site with high capex to off-site with little or no capex, but also because SMEs can take full advantage of cloud as well as enterprises and multi- nationals. “For us this means we have an even wider channel partner type, size and overall opportunity,” Joplin commented. “System integrators, resellers and referrers of all sizes are already taking full advantage of our cloud services.”

Having hidden its light under a bushel and keeping its modus operandi a close industry secret, Exponential-e finally spills the beans on its scope of operation and scale of channel opportunity as a carrier with distinction.

xponential-e has witnessed double digit year-on-year growth since 2002


when it was first established. The current headcount stands at 180 and the company regularly receives Tech Track 100 status alongside numerous product, direct, channel and marketing awards. “This year will mark our tenth anniversary and we expect to have a turnover in excess of £45 million, most of which will come from our


channel business,” explained Exponential-e’s Head of Indirect, David Joplin.


“Over the past year we have experienced a rapid growth rate of partners converging services over our network, and this has augmented our success in the channel. Many of our partners also provide cloud-based services from data centres as part of single site and wide area network solutions, and despite the possibility of another


recession on the horizon we expect to see even more wide area network opportunities over the next 12-18 months as companies strive to make cost savings while improving their ICT capabilities.”


End users are looking to use cloud-based services with big operators such as Amazon and Google or bespoke private solutions, observes Joplin. “This has given us further justification to connect to even more


data centres and expand on our network footprint, which already covers the main UK towns and cities with in excess of 100 points of presence,” he added. “In addition to this, the imminent arrival of our own Platform as a Service white label product in the channel will significantly increase partner capabilities in the cloud service arena.”

Dominant theme Exponential-e recently surveyed its partners to ask about new areas of focus for 2012, and cloud services was a dominant theme in the results. “In many respects this was not a surprise as a lot partners have been using our NGN for cloud services delivery for quite some time,” added Joplin. “However, one thing that appears to be important to partners now more than ever is the network used to deliver the cloud services, particularly the ability to optimise the use of the bandwidth quickly and easily on a per-application basis.”


Using Exponential-e’s network for cloud service delivery partners get the best of both worlds, claims Joplin. They can view and control the bandwidth in real time from a PC without having to install any additional hardware, thus optimising the connection for the cloud. Partners have the choice to offer this as a managed service or pass the control on to the end customer. “More recently we are seeing that there are just as many end customers wanting to use their Internet connection for cloud services
