Steve Cullen talks to Tool Business+Hire about Snapco SNAPCO
Snapco are a UK wide stockist/distributor specialising in strapping, stretch wrap, adhesive tapes and polythene products. They import containers of strapping and stretch wrap, working with some of the world’s major blue-chip manufacturers promoting strapping tools and associated packaging machinery. Managing Director, Stuart Macfarlane, bought the
company in 1996. Snapco, however, has been trading since 1985. In January 2011 they purchased a 26 year old industrial supply company based in Glasgow. This immediately increased their range of products and enabled them to offer their existing customer base a wider range of products. When Stuart took control of Snapco, he recruited
personnel with the necessary knowledge and experience to drive the business forward. This knowledge and experience is considered vital by the management team if Snapco want to develop the business and to react promptly and efficiently to customers’ requirements. Employees are provided with regular training in two key areas – technical training and customer service training. Appleton Associates provides the Customer Service
Training via a well-established THS connection, and once again underlines another benefit of THS membership. Technical training, in the ranges of products stocked by
Snapco, is most often provided in- house and with the help of various supplier company representatives and gives insight into any innovations or new products. To quote Steve Cullen, Snapco’s Business
Development Manager, “The strength of independent suppliers is depth of product knowledge and first class service. You sell what the customers want and try to engineer cost effective solutions for them using your product knowledge and experience”. When it comes to stocking decisions the Branch
Manager, Teresa Allen, has ultimate responsibility for placing orders and ensuring that enough stock is available at all times in order to meet customers’ orders. Snapco prides itself in offering same day or next day service. Teresa's role also involves meeting suppliers and utilizing THS systems to explore and evaluate any new products that come to market that may be of interest to Snapco. Snapco’s business is sales driven, and anything that
improves the customers’ experience of a quick and efficient sales handling system will help Snapco to retain and expand its customer base, underlining just how important it is for salespeople to use their knowledge, experience and customer focus skills to provide solutions for purchasers. Snapco is a very significant player in Scotland and
throughout the UK. 12 ToolBUSINESS+HIRE
