WELCOME TO THE WORLD WINE AWARDS 2012
that they have chosen to participate. We hope that you too will be able to gain from the many benefits of entering the DWWA.
T WHAT MAKES THE DWWA UNIQUE?
Expert palates judging on a regional level The success of the DWWA rests on its unique judging process and world-class judging panels. We judge on a regional basis to promote a sense of origin and we only take on judges when they have an intimate knowledge of a specific region. A thorough understanding of regional style is crucial in order to recognise quality rather than just rewarding “competition wines”. We are proud of our judges and you can find out exactly who judges your wine and their credentials on
Decanter.com.
How we judge your wine Wines are tasted blind within their region of origin and price bracket to ensure that an expression of terroir is taken into account, and wines are compared like for like. Each wine is individually assessed and discussed by a dedicated panel before a verdict is recorded. Wines can be awarded Commended, Bronze, Silver, Gold medals or Regional Trophy. All Silver medals are tasted twice, and all Gold, Regional Trophy and International Trophy winning wines are tasted up to four times. On average 85 wines are judged per day.
Gold, Regional and International Trophies All wines awarded a medal in the Decanter World Wine Awards deserve recognition. During the judging process the very best wines are awarded a Gold medal. These are then re-tasted against others in their Regional Category to determine the Regional Trophy winners – the best of their region, a very significant achievement. Only when wines have been awarded this prestigious award are they pitted against grape varieties from around the world, to determine the winners of the highly sought-after International Trophies.
Trusted relationship with worldwide audience of wine lovers Decanter is trusted internationally for its independence and authority. Its unrivalled reputation means that consumers and trade around the world use the results to discover the world’s best wines – whatever their budget, whatever their preference.
