Playing the Game with Self Play Restarts In and Around the Attacking 25 by Terry Walsh

FROM THE 25 YARD LINE AND IN IF FREE HIT OUTSIDE 25 You can play directly into circle

IF FREE HIT INSIDE 25 You CANNOT play directly into circle

IF FREE HIT INSIDE DOTTED CIRCLE You must bring the ball back to the dotted circle

JUST OUTSIDE THE 25 • Quickly set free hit position – do not allow defense to set up structure • Can play directly in to the circle – strikers to set accordingly inside the attacking circle

• If delayed, change angles before penetrating the circle • Self Play quickly on an angle then penetrate the circle – this allows the situation to win a free hit and Self Play quickly against the penalized defender

FREE HIT INSIDE THE 25 BUT OUTSIDE THE DOTTED CIRCLE • Quickly set the ball while teammates try to set up positions to receive on edge of circle

• Timing is critical so receivers get to the reception point just after it has been passed

• Get the ball in to the circle to maximize pressure on the defense • Change angles by Self Play – possibly even moving a full 5m yourself • Remember, a ball movement of 1m allows your teammate to pass the ball in to the circle

A FREE HIT INSIDE THE DOTTED CIRCLE • Quickly bring the ball back to the dotted circle – look off the ball while doing so • Teammates to set potential receiving points outside edge of circle – again the timing is critical – get there in a timely fashion – not too early making marking by the defenders an easy task • Change angles by Self Play – possibly even moving a full 5m yourself • Remember a ball movement of 1m allows your teammate to pass the ball into the circle
