6 Buying Groups First Words M
y first month at the helm of SGB ended with the annual STAG buying show at Cotswold Water Park (see review, page 8)
This gave me a great chance to meet many industry suppliers, retailers and gave me a great insight into what makes this terrific industry tick. The atmosphere at the show and particularly in the bar in the evening was positive! Let’s keep our fingers crossed for a fruitful 2012.
This issue sees the start of the SGB revolution. Editorially, the magazine will shift towards being far more retailer focused. For instance, this month examines how the retailer can profit from the increasing popularity of darts and a personal favourite of mine, the emergence of retro products onto the sporting market.
In line with this drive to be a more retailer focused magazine, SGB has managed to secure deals from Samurai (page 14) and Stuart Surridge (page 32) for product discounts for the SGB readership. Keep an eye out in future months for similar deals to help save a few quid.
The New Year sees our new design launch and early impressions look very promising for a healthy 2012 for the trade institution that is SGB.
We also welcome onboard Paul Westlake, who every month will feature and review the latest products that have hit the market. Our new review system will objectively rate products to give retailers a better indication of which products they should be purchasing.
Have a Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Alex Fordham, editor, SGB Sports
