Traditional local shows take place in the valleys, whilst the bigger events such as the Keswick Mountain Festival and the Keswick Jennings Jazz Festival bring colour and excitement to the town. January


1 January - New Year Countdown Celebrate the New Year with locals and visitors alike as they assemble just before midnight in Keswick’s Market Square. Count down the seconds to midnight with our Countdown Clock before the traditional renditions of ‘Auld Lang Syne’.

March 2-11 March - Words by the Water Literature Festival Theatre by the Lake is the centre for this exciting literature festival organised by Ways With Words. For 10 days, writers and readers get together to share the pleasure of books, words and ideas. www.wayswithwords.co.uk

6-9 April - Easter Weekend An “eggs-ceptional” weekend of Easter themed events in the area. www.keswick.org


22 April – St Georges Day Keswick celebrates the nation’s saint with a Church Service, parade, brass band and market stalls.

6 May - Keswick Half Marathon & Fun Runs


Keswick Half Marathon is said to be one of the most scenic half marathons in the country. The challenging course takes you around Derwentwater with an extra loop into the Newlands valley. Come and take part in this very popular annual event. www.keswickhalfmarathon.co.uk


3-6 May - The 21st Jennings Keswick Jazz Festival


The four day festival will once again bring together many of the world’s finest exponents of mainstream and traditional jazz. American and European stars will rub shoulders with a glittering array of Britain’s top jazz musicians. The programme will see over 100 jazz events hosted by a dozen different venues, all covered by the festival’s pass. www.keswickjazzfestival.co.uk


16-20 May - Keswick Mountain Festival The Keswick Mountain Festival celebrates everything we all love about the outdoors. The festival offers five fantastic days packed full of adventure, outdoor activities, inspirational speakers, sporting competitions for all abilities and great outdoor brands. Visitors can get involved in activities such as ghyll scrambling, mountain biking, guided walks, map reading, canoeing, climbing and lots more. Those who fancy a challenge can take part in a festival sporting event such as the triathlon, trail race, sportive, fell race, mountain bike challenge or wild swim. www.keswickmountainfestival.co.uk

8 & 9 June - Bassenthwaite Festival A weekend of music in the most beautiful of locations - St Bega’s. www.bassfest.org.uk


1 & 2 June - The 16th Keswick Beer Festival


The 2012 event will be the 16th Keswick Beer Festival. From humble beginnings in 1997 the festival has grown into an event attracting nearly 6000 beer enthusiasts over two days. In 2011, over 250 barrels of beer, lager and cider were available to sample, six live bands played, and the sun shone – most of the time! Tickets for the 2012 festival will go on general sale via the website on 1st December. www.keswickbeerfestival.co.uk

First Week in July – The Lakes Comedy Festival


Famous faces and ‘up and coming’ artists take to the stage for your entertainment. With two weekends of fun The Lakes Comedy Festival is sure to bring a smile to the faces of all who attend. www.keswick.org

Keswick Ministries organise the annual Keswick Convention, which has been taking place since 1875. It offers something for everyone – life changing bible teaching, worship and fellowship, with separate Kids and Youth programmes, all combined with the chance to relax and enjoy the wonder of the Lake District. www.keswickministries.org
