Buttermere Church

If you choose to stay in a village or at a farm in one of the valleys, rather than in town, you’ll discover a different pace of life. You don’t need to stay up too late to watch the stars in a pitch black sky, you’ll wake to the sounds of nature and escape from the busy, noisy life at home.

Unique and intimate accommodation can be found in the areas outside Keswick, everything from bijou boutique B&Bs to working farms, historic country houses and traditional Lakeland coaching inns.

Why not use the bus to explore the area? The Honister Rambler takes a stunning route over Whinlatter and Honister Passes and through the Lorton, Buttermere and Borrowdale Valleys. If you buy a Day Pass you can spend an hour or so at the lake in Buttermere, go underground at Honister Mine or enjoy the forest trails at Whinlatter.

Or if you fancy going further afield you can easily enjoy a bus ride to Grasmere to visit the Wordsworth Museum and Dove Cottage or see Wordsworth House in Cockermouth or even take a day trip to the historic city of Carlisle. At £24 (2011 price) a seven day pass for all the buses in Cumbria and Lancashire represents excellent value.
