atagonia and Sebago are both celebrating the opening of London

fl agship stores. Patagonia has announced the opening of

its fi rst UK Flagship store in Covent Garden. With 4,340 sq. ft. of retail space, the store will be a showcase for the full Patagonia offering from core technical alpine and ski/ snowboard products, to Patagonia’s lifestyle range and new footwear collections. Patagonia’s European Marketing Manager,

Jonathan Petty said; “The owners of Patagonia, Yvon and Malinda Chouinard, have for many years wanted to open a London store and we hope this will continue to drive the fantastic momentum the brand currently has in Europe.” The store is the second collaboration

with Outside, who successfully opened Patagonia’s Hathersage store in the Peak

District. As with all Patagonia stores, the Covent Garden space was selected in keeping with Patagonia’s retail brief, to use historic sites and to preserve the integrity of the building. This is certainly the case in Covent Garden as this location was formally part of the Watney Combe & Reid brewery, founded in 1837. Meanwhile, Sebago’s new fl agship store

sees them take up residence at 78 Regent Street. The store boasts 1,604 sq ft of retail space encompassing two fl oors, with a ground fl oor total selling space of 818 sq. ft. and a basement of 786 sq ft.

aglite have released the newest member of the XL series onto the market; the XL

plus additional advanced features and the brightness of a Next-Generation LED. By using the “Quick Click” method, introduced with the Maglite XL50 fl ashlight, the XL200 lets the user select the desired function. Brightness and blink rate can also be user defi ned; simply rotating the wrist increases or decreases the power level or strobe intensity. The XL 200 fl ashlight also features a pocket

sized, water and shock resistant design in an aluminium casing which is anodized to aid durability and prevent corrosion. Other benefi ts include a “spot-to-fl ood” adjustable LED Beam and each fl ashlight comes with its own unique serial number.

ridgedale is aiming to make life easier for retailers and consumers and reduce

environmental impact with the introduction of new product packaging. The new packaging being introduced for Spring 2012 will be unveiled to UK retailers at OTS 2011. Bridgedale devotees will still recognise

all their favourite socks, but now with new names and colour coded, consumer friendly packs highlighting each differing technical yarn story. The Endurance range is now WoolFusion, Comfort socks are now MerinoFusion, and the Fast and Light series are now CoolFusion socks. Managing Director, Steve Fowler, said: “The

biggest complaint I hear from shop fl oor staff is that nearly all sock packaging is a real pain when it comes to creating easy to understand displays and then keeping them looking good. Nearly all sock packaging is diffi cult for the customer to get the socks out of, then frustratingly diffi cult for the staff to get the socks re-packaged”. With combined simplicity for both retailer

and consumer essential, other packaging design changes aim to highlight this. Simple silhouetted graphics suggest what activity the socks are suited for, comfort/warmth bars are now on the front of the pack, and the whole range is easier to understand. Additionally, the foot shaped pack makes

the removal and replacement of the sock a simple push out/push in process. No more fi ddling with fragile packaging and no more torn or broken packaging on the wall. Just a neat and easy to understand sock collection.
