Alcoa Defense Ships 1,000th Alcoa, Pittsburgh, announced its


defense division has shipped its 1,000th set of titanium investment castings to BAE Systems for the 155-mm M777 Howitzer program. Alcoa Defense produces the cast-


ings at its Ti-Cast center in Whitehall, Mich., part of Alcoa Howmet. Cast parts are used throughout the Howit- zer for yokes, mounts and housings. “Trough investment casting, we


are able to consolidate multiple parts into one, avoiding expensive labor for fabrication and welding,” said Mark Straszheim, Alcoa Howmet account manager. “Our customers are consis- tently impressed with the complexity of design we can support and thin wall capability to reduce weight and costs.” Alcoa Defense offers several solutions,

Corp. (CPP), Pomona, Calif., an- nounced it will be recapitalized by Warburg Pincus, New York. Te metalcaster said the private


equity firm, in partnership with the company’s existing management team, has reached an agreement with the company’s current financial sponsor, Arlington Capital Partners, Wash- ington, D.C. Terms of the transac- tion, which is expected to close in the fourth quarter, were not disclosed. “We believe Warburg Pincus is an


ideal partner for CPP’s growth,” said Steve Clodfelter, CPP’s chief executive officer and president. “Warburg Pincus has domain expertise in aerospace and defense, as well as a known track record of strengthening the global platforms of its portfolio companies.” CPP operates nine casting plants


and a rapid prototyping division in North America and Europe. It manufactures superalloy, aluminum, magnesium and steel components for the commercial aerospace and defense markets in the investment and preci- sion sand casting processes.
