EDITORIAL Introducing Our Team While my smiling face appears on this page every
issue, the key to MODERN CASTING is the team that puts it together. I would like to introduce you to the people responsible for our products in print and online.
Editorial
T e heart of every magazine is the editorial con- tent—the words and artwork developed to help you. Our editorial team takes pride in visiting metalcasting facilities and being active members of the industry. Shea Gibbs, Managing Editor— One of the two people responsible for 90% of the editorial in each issue of MODERN CASTING, Shea has been writing about metalcasting for us since 2006. While his career as a professional baseball player sput- tered in college, Shea has worked two stints in casting facilities on assignment for the magazine. In addition to his feature responsibilities each month, Shea has always been the driver of the news departments in our magazine, making them second to none in the industry. Shannon Wetzel, Senior Editor, Digital Managing Editor—As the second member of the dynamic edito- rial pair that pushes out this magazine and produces all the content for our websites, Shannon joined our team
in 2005. A mother of two, Shannon is crazy about casting, as evidenced by the fact that she toured three metalcasters and an end-user while six months preg- nant with her second child. She is the driver behind the product side of the magazine, while also writing foundry profi le and technical articles. April Dahlquist, Assistant Editor—
Only with us a few months, April shows promise as the next face to be visiting your facilities. She also is driving many of our social media eff orts through LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook. Reach out to her online and welcome her. Mike Berrafato, Art Director—T e
“grandfather” of our team, Mike has been taking the words and artwork our editors submit and turning it into a magazine since 1989. An avid hockey fan (and coach), Mike’s insane love of Mountain Dew helps keep the engine of our magazine running.
Advertising and Business
If editorial is the heart of our team, the advertis- ing sales and business side is the brains. T is is the group that allows suppliers to the industry deliver their message to metalcasters.
Alfred T. Spada, Publisher/Editor-in-Chief

November 2011 MODERN CASTING | 9 Rolf Petersen, Associate Publisher—
Second in tenure on our team (he joined full-time in 1993), Rolf is a pillar of the metalcasting supply community, work- ing with advertisers on how to deliver their message most eff ectively. Born and raised in Appleton, Wis., he has been
around metalcasting most of his life (it just took him a while to realize it). Rolf has been the brains behind the development of our annual Equipment, Products & Services Supplement, the Supplier Prospectus and our special CastExpo publications. Jim Beckwith, Advertising Sales—Jim has been in our advertising sales position since 2008. An avid musician, Jim focuses most of his energy on our digital products and sister publication, Metal Casting Design & Purchas- ing. Once a year, he manages our Buyer’s Guide directory to ensure industry suppliers are properly represented. Joe Murphy, Advertising Sales—Joe has been a dependable member of our advertising sales team since 1993. A lover of all things from the North- east, he uses his Luck of the Irish to enhance the message of suppliers and deliver it to our readers. Beata Burek, Classifi ed Adver-
tising—Beata has been coordinating classifi eds for us for the last three years. It is a production- intensive process that requires working with hundreds of detail-oriented ads at any one time. She has been an asset for us and our customers. Barbara Jackowski, Circula- tion Manager—Nothing is exciting about data management. But since 1998, Barb has been making sure your address is correct and your magazine receives a mailing label every month so it can reach you. It is a key spoke in our wheel,
one we couldn’t live without. MODERN CASTING (in print and online) and its sister publications require a dedicated production team. It is our devotion to being critical members of this industry that allows us to deliver to you what you want and need. So the next time you see one of these smiling
faces visiting your facility or elsewhere in the indus- try, let them know what you think of the magazine. We all want to hear it.
