ello Lindsey... let’s start with what you do at Littlewoods?
Lindsey: Okay, well my title is Littlewoods Trading Lead. Not that that tells you much! Basically I look after online promotions and just make sure we’re promoting our services and offers in the right way. Yeah I know it sounds boring - but you know what – I love it!
Dorothy: Glad to hear it! Now, let’s move on to your story. Tell me about you and Jay - how did you guys meet?
We met at a party in August 2008. A friend of mine introduced us. I was living in Chester and Jay was in the Army, based down in Aldershot. We started dating almost straight away - love at first sight and all that.
Right, so Jay’s a soldier?
Yes he was, he’s left the Army now, which I’m pleased about. I don’t think I could take him doing another tour of Afghanistan.
God, that must have been awful, how long was he out there?
7 months... and that was probably the longest 7 months of my life!
I can’t imagine how you must have felt. I don’t think I could cope with that. How often did you get to talk to each other?
Well, we emailed every day, so I was lucky. Lots of the soldiers out there have really limited contact. And we had a phone date every Sunday, 6pm sharp! Of course that was great, only problem was there was the odd time he didn’t call and that’s when your mind starts racing.
Why didn’t he call? me 102
When he was out there he used to tell me it was because of the bad storms they had, or the electric had gone down or something. Only when he came home did he tell me was because of an ‘incident’ but didn’t want to worry me. I’m glad he told me a little white lie! Really, having someone out there
An uplifting Littlewoods story
changes your life. Every time I turned the radio on in the car on the way to work, I seemed to hear something about Afghan’, likewise, every time I turned on the TV. I actually became too scared to watch the news. All you do, all day long, is worry. Some days are worse than others.
