Do you think you have too little time to use student video production in core content classes? Although everyone always enjoys the polished look of an edited video, the time investment is often a deterrent to taking advantage of the opportunities o ffered by the relatively inexpensive and highly intuitive video cameras that today’s technology offers. There are many benefits to using video in the classroom that are possible without having to consume large amounts of instructional time. The traditional brainstorming, scripting, storyboarding, shooting, and editing involved with the production of a typical short film often requires a minimum of five class periods, and this can be discouraging to teachers who already feel overwhelmed with having so much to teach in so little time. Integrating video into presentations, discussions, productions, or science labs that are already part of your curriculum need not significantly extend the length of the exercise, though, and can also provide a variety of benefits.
