Spotlighting Success: Hundreds of People Give Input at Innovation Celebration

“I knew this event would make a positive impact, but the commitment and collaboration I have seen among district staff, students and community members in regard to the Innovation Celebration is beyond what I expected,” said Curtis R. Dietrich, Ed.D., Superintendent, NPSD.

Dr. Dietrich referenced Innovation Celebration, an “expo of sorts” held in the Spring of 2011. At this event, hundreds of people came out to Penndale Middle School to learn about and give their input on how to reduce expenditures and increase revenues in NPSD.

The 60-plus concepts ranged from changing the default font on printers, to implementing student activity fees, to allowing advertising in district publi- cations. People at Innovation Celebration gave their thoughts on which ideas were feasible to implement.

In June of 2011, the NPSD Board of School Directors approved many of the concepts presented at Innova- tion Celebration. Total savings from these efforts are expected to be more than $2 million. NPSD plans to continue the Innovation Celebration concept at its second event, planned for April 18, 2012.

NPSD is proud that it was once again able to deliver a high- quality education at a low cost to taxpayers. The district’s tax increase for the 2011-2012 school year was once again one of the lowest in Montgomery County. In fact, NPSD ranked as the 5th

lowest tax rate out of 21 school districts in Montgomery County. NPSD reports the following:
