Dear Community,

The 2010-2011 school year marked another fantastic year filled with great accomplishments from our students, staff, volunteers and community members. Through this annual report to the community, I am very excited to share with you the stories, the data and the people behind our achievements.

Although faced with daunting economic challenges, the North Penn School District never lost sight of its core mission of educating students. We streamlined opera- tions, prioritized projects and cut spending where it didn’t impact instruction. We spent these dollars, instead, on maintaining programs, developing excellent teachers and staff, and providing a safe learning environment, all of which positively influence student success.

The results are noteworthy. Student achievement increased to its highest levels and every school met

its Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) targets for all subgroups. Also, the Keystone Alliance for Performance Excellence (KAPE) recognized NPSD for its operational effectiveness, making NPSD the first school district in the state to be honored by KAPE.

Most importantly, the everyday success stories taking place in our classrooms and departments cannot be forgotten. It takes staff com- mitment, student perseverance, and community and family support to make these accomplishments happen. As always, when North Penn comes together for the common good, we can achieve great things. The 2010-2011 school year is proof of this.

Sincerely,

Curtis R. Dietrich, Ed. D. NPSD Superintendent 215-853-1001 dietricr@npenn.org

A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD OF SCHOOL DIRECTORS:

The NPSD Board of School Directors thanks our entire community, staff and students for another remarkable school year. Whether or not you have children that attend one of NPSD’s 18 schools or one of the many private and parochial schools in our area, we commend you for your commitment to the education and success of all our children.

As your elected officials, we are responsible for the fiscal manage- ment of the entire school district and the management of NPSD’s re- sources. We are pleased that we continue to offer our residents one of the lowest tax bills in the county, while, at the same time, increasing student achievement, graduation rate and our percentage of students heading to college each year.

It must also be mentioned that it takes visionary fiscal leadership to steer school districts during these times. Last year, NPSD implemented

numerous initiatives to increase efficiency in all areas of district operations. Because of decisions like these, NPSD is better positioned than most and ready for the future. Everyone agrees reducing operat- ing expenses, increasing overall efficiency, and raising the level of accountability in the NPSD will reap benefits for taxpayers now and in years to come.

In fact, two nationally recognized publications, the Washington Post and Newsweek, named North Penn High School one of the best schools in the nation. This recognition did not come by accident; it is the result of deliberate actions and goals put in place by our teachers, administrators, support staff and students.

Our pledge to every family residing in the North Penn School District is to continue to provide our children opportunities for success. We hope you will continue your support in this matter.
