A Look at the Current Year:
2011-2012 Last year was successful for many reasons and, because of this, the current year is moving in the right direction. In June, the NPSD Board of School Directors passed a budget that called for no increase in taxes, yet maintained the quality educational programs for which NPSD is known.
Getting to that point took much effort from staff, community members and board members. It also took sacrifice, as many NPSD staff members did not receive a salary increase for the 2011-2012 school year. We are also operating with fewer employees and living with vacancies to decrease salary costs. Positions are vacant in every area of NPSD including administration, teaching staff and support staff.
Our budget calls for spending nearly $2 million less than the 2010-2011 budget, though expenses have risen. Efforts
like Innovation Celebration and sound financial decisions, such as the School Board’s refinancing of bonds, helped to offset this increase in expenses.
There have also been revenue losses due to property assessment appeals, a decrease in realty transfer taxes and cuts in state and federal funding. In fact, the state’s budget for NPSD is significantly less than previous years.
North Penn continues to have the people in place in every segment of the organization to continue our academic ex- cellence and operational effectiveness. NPSD has a solid tradition of excellence that has gotten us to this successful point in history and will take us further into the future.
Together, working as a community, NPSD will weather the current financial challenges and meet its goal of becoming the top school district in the state.
