RACE IN THE UK

NOVEMBER 2 Dip in the Dark (wild swim with fireworks and barbeque), Capernwray Dive Centre, Lake District, Cumbria. adventure-challenge-solutions.co.uk

WHERE TO SWIM IN WINTER With many of the organised outdoor swimming venues in the Northern Hemisphere closing up for winter we asked our Facebook fans for their recommendations to continue swimming. This is what they came up with:

○ There’s a group of us swim all winter in the Sea at Cawsand Bay in Cornwall – in wetsuits and gloves of course (Pauline Barker)

○ Barbados, Bali, Gold Coast, Seychelles… (Chris Freeman) ○ Port Gaverne and Port Quin for sheltered swimming; Crackington Haven if conditions are right. North Cornwall (Nicola Barnes)

○ London Fields is ace in the winter. It’s heated so you swim with steam rising on a cold winter’s morning. (Mark Elkins)

○ The North Sea at either Seaton Carew or Scarborough. The temperature botoms out around late February. (Mark Robson)

○ River Nene or Great Ouse with the local Outdoor Swimming Society crew. The water is always fresh, sometimes crazy cold, always invigorating. (Bryn Dymot)

○ Tooting Bec lido (Lucinda Pollington) ○ Hampton Pool (Christian Hughes) ○ Broch, near Dunnet Head, on the north coast of Scotland. (Corrina Thomson)

○ Llyn Celyn, North Wales. It’s the lake near Bala. It’s about 6-10 °C all year round, and in winter there’s snow. It’s awesome! (Alina Warren)

○ Rhodes Town, Greece. There’s a big group of winter sea swimmers. (Shaz Smith)

If you want to recommend any other places to swim through winter please let us know via Facebook or at info@h2openmagazine.com
