This annual get-together for operators and suppliers, representing waterparks, splash parks, aquatics centres, hotels, resorts and even YMCAs, provides an excellent opportunity to share ideas, benchmark best practices and network with industry peers.

three-day trade show, which kicks off on October 5, will feature

more than 250 companies, showcasing everything from lifeguard uniforms and ticketing systems to waterslides and spray features.

Social events during the week will be plentiful, including WWA’s Annual Golf Tournament (October 4), the Annual Reunion Party (October 5) and a New Orleans Party at Generations Hall on October 6 – so dig out your best Hawaiian shirt (every waterpark operator should have one) and prepare to party!

TiLEforum 2012 European leisure conference returns

Fans of TiLE (Trends in Leisure and Entertainment) will be pleased to see the conference return in its prolonged two-day format this October, following a series of one- day workshops over the last few years. With the beautiful Italian city of Florence as host venue, it’s also a great opportunity to add in a bit a culture, or maybe even make a long weekend. “TiLEforum 2011 will provide a forum where all sectors of the leisure attractions industry can meet to exchange ideas, make contacts during the social events, enjoy Florence and be stimulated and challenged by speakers from outside of and from different sectors of the leisure attractions & museums business,” highlights organiser Richard Curtis of Andrich International. Sessions planned include the following:

•Trends – Future Thinking (opening session) •Places – the Palaces of Experience. How are owners and operators of leisure and entertainment facilities – including Expos – reacting to changes in demand? •Rising to the Trend Challenges – Specialist Solutions. Including narrative/storytelling and food and drink as entertainment.

•Branding Istria. Over the past five years Croatia, a country that just 20 years ago was riven by civil strife, has become one of the ‘hot’ destinations in Europe. This session will explore the repositioning of the Istria peninsula. •Digital Tourism: Tomorrow’s Guest Has Checked in Early. From augmented reality to location based services powered by GPS and mobile technology.

•Delivering Retail Distinction: How Product Licensing Creates Destination Store Appeal and Attracts New Audiences. •Pushing The Boundaries – Innovating to Engage a 21st Century Audience. From innovative visitor programmes to exhibitions challenging cultural norms, discover how operators and designers are broadening their horizons to create experiences designed to cause ripples. •Design Panel: Innovative Design and Interpretation. Asking such questions as: Is a reliance on digital media over? Are 4D and 5D immersive experiences the way of the future or easy solutions? Does technology inspire design? •Panel Discussion: Serial Reproduction – Crimes Against the Consumer (closing discussion). Delegates will be challenged to reflect on industry innovation and creativity in order to avoid the formulaic approach to leisure and entertainment projects. The official TiLEforum Party is scheduled for the first

night of the event, with a TEA Mixer after the conference on October 27. The organisers have also scheduled a series of museum visits on October 28 for interested delegates.

TiLEforum 2011 takes place at Santa Apollonia in Florence, Italy, on Wednesday and Thursday, October 26 and 27. For more details of the conference programme, registration and travel advice, visit the official TiLE website: www.tileweb.org
