Master Thai at Mirabilandia
Italy’s number two amusement park has opened a twin track coaster courtesy of long time collaborator Preston & Barbieri. Master Thai at Mirabilandia near Ravenna incorporates the licensed property Max Adventures (a cartoon lion) and features extensive theming by the
German company TAA Industries.
The ride opened on August 7, featuring a Möbius loop layout, and is adorned with 2,000 square metres of rockwork, two giant towers and five fibreglass figures. TAA spent 12 weeks on site, producing this and details such as wooden fences and poles in the queue line. “Mirabilandia opted for lots of theming in order to further attract visitors,” comments TAA’s Christian Angenvoort. “This is consistent with a trend that we have observed in recent years fpr more elaborate coaster theming.”
Pirate Invasion at Lightwater Valley
New for 2011 at England’s Lightwater Valley is Skeleton Cove … where only the bravest buccaneers dare come ashore. This pirate area signals a fresh emphasis on theming for the park, providing a fully immersive experience complete with specially composed soundtrack. Featured are five fresh rides for Lightwater guests including Black Pearl (Weber Dream Boat), Flying Cutlass (Huss Pirate Ship), Powder Kegs (Huss Breakdance), Skull Rock (Zamperla Regatta) and Pirate Swinger (junior chair ride). To relax and refuel, families can drift towards Hungry Harbour All but the Swinger were purchased from Henk Bembon at Loudoun Castle in Scotland, which
ceased trading as a theme park last autumn. Following the loan of a similar ride last summer from a travelling showman, the park has now purchased its own Mondial Top Scan, Whirlwind.
Situated near the town of Ripon, North Yorkshire, Lightwater Valley features over 40 rides and attractions including Europe's longest roller coaster (The Ultimate), Raptor Attack (underground Schwarzkopf rollercoaster), the Eagle’s Claw (KMG Afterburner) and Wild River Rapids (by Reverchon). The 2011 season
continues until October 30, when the park will host a Halloween weekend called Frightwater Valley.

Ferris Wheel Follies
Replacing a much older Eli Bridge-style Ferris Wheel, the new Pembrokeshire Wheel at Folly Farm in South Wales has been a big hit with visitors since it opened earlier this year.
The new attraction, which stands 25-metres (82ft) tall, is being ridden by roughly one in three Folly Farm guests. Visitors can try the attraction for just one 50p ($0.79/€0.57) ride token, in addition to regular admission.
Manufactured in Italy by the Fabbri Group, the ride features 18 six-seater gondolas, including a special rectangular carriage for wheelchair-users. From the top, passengers enjoy unparalleled views of the Pembrokeshire countryside and coast. Folly Farm was
created in 2008 after the Williams and Ebsworth families diversified from dairy farming into the leisure industry. With almost 400,000 visitors a year, the attraction near Tenby has become Wales’ largest paid-for tourist attraction.

Dutch design firm P&P Projects recently created the new Entdeckershaus (Discovery House) at Duisburg Zoo in Germany (pictured). Housing a variety of live animals and insects, the building is a mix of a laboratory and living quarters, with a kitchen area and a bed for zoo employees. Visitors, meanwhile, are encouraged to use the magnifying glasses to discover what kind of creepy crawlies are living in the house, or inspect animals up close with the aid of a keeper. P&P designed and built all of the exhibit areas, animal habitats and furniture. The Entdeckershaus is located in the new pet zoo area and opened to visitors on July 8.
P&P continues to work on a number of theme park projects and this summer completed work for a varied list of clients including Madame Tussauds Vienna, Walibi Holland and Legoland Discovery Center in Dallas/Fort Worth. The company is currently working on several confidential projects for major parks, including more work for Merlin Enterprises, as well as a major visitor attraction in Budapest and several museums.
