Educational Counselors: Interviewing Students and More
Educational counselors (ECs), some 3,000 strong worldwide, are alumni who volun- teer to interview prospective students and serve as resources in their communities.
“
T e information the ECs provide is often the thing that really makes a diff erence for a student,” says Kim Hunter ’86, the Admissions Offi ce’s Educational Council director. “In the end, we fi nd a great fi t for MIT, and they have a chance to meet an amazing young person.”
Likewise, Texas-based Caroline Moore ’07, an EC who works in real estate private equity, notes, “T e students are amazingly talented, accomplished, and driven, and some have even stayed in touch.”
Curious what ECs ask? Here are some of Moore’s favorite questions: How would your best friend describe you? If you had a year and money was not an issue, what would you do and why?
