My Christmas Markets... by Anna Maria Espsäter

“There’s nothing like an off-the-beaten-track, rural Christmas market, I thought as I waded through the copious amounts of snow outside Gunnarskog’s Homestead Museum in Värmland, western Sweden. This area has become more easily accessible from the

UK and less pricey, thanks to Norwegian.no flying into Oslo just across the border. I’d found a little gem of a Christmas market, held inside a cluster of old buildings. Before long I was busily checking out the colourful handicrafts on display, as well as homemade delicacies from cakes and breads, to jams and of course mulled wine. The latter could be sampled in situ, but this being Sweden it was alcohol-free. I barely noticed though, so well-spiced and warming did it feel. Perhaps now would be a good time for some post-shopping coffee and cake by the open fire in the grand old main building? “
