att Fuerbringer has been a veteran of the international and domestic beach tours for more than 10 years and has played in nearly 200 professional tournaments. The 37-year-old Stanford graduate called his silver medal at the FIVB Quebec Open in Canada in late July one of his most gratify- ing accomplishments in beach volleyball. Fuerbringer and partner Nick Lucena fi nished second to fellow Americans Todd Rogers and

Phil Dalhausser and six inches higher on the podium than bronze medalists Sean Rosenthal and Jake Gibb. It was the fi rst time the United States men’s beach teams had swept the po- dium in the 23-year history of the FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour.

“It was just a tremendous feeling of pride to be up there with my friend and countrymen,” Fuerbringer said. “There was a sense of accom- plishment knowing that it had never been done

before in 23 years, but it was also inspiring. It makes you want it to happen again in a Grand Slam event and I think we can do it.” Fuerbringer-Lucena dropped a close 23- 21, 21-19 gold-medal match to Rogers and Dalhausser, who regained their form in July be earning fi ve consecutive podium fi nishes. The defending Olympic beach volleyball gold medalists also earned a gold medal the week after the Quebec event in Poland.
