Wings & Waves Waterpark
Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum, McMinnville, Oregon, has opened Wings & Waves Waterpark – crowned by a real Boeing 747 with four custom-designed slides descending from the plane’s rear exit doors. The tube slides, a
combination of innertube and body waterslides, were engineered by WhiteWater, one of which spirals into a SuperBowl feature, before making a final descent into a shutdown lane.
Inside the 70,000 sq foot waterpark facility, guests will also discover a forest- themed AquaPlay structure featuring a 65% scale helicopter with tipping bucket. The water playground boasts over 80 other features, including dozens of interactive spray jets and water guns, plus four waterslides, a net climb and bridges. Waterpark admission is $25-30 (€17.50-21.30).

Sally goes to Legoland
Sally Corporation is to deliver dark rides to the new Legoland parks in Florida (opening October 15) and Malaysia (debuting early next year). The deal with operator Merlin Entertainments follows several years of successful operation of the rides Lost Kingdom Adventure and Laser Raiders at Legoland California and Legoland Windsor (England) respectively. Each of these interactive, blacklight rides feature Lego’s Indiana Jones-style character Johnny Thunder, in an exciting adventure set in an ancient Egyptian temple. The temple walls hide not only the treasure of the pharaohs, but also a secret, high-scoring bonus target that almost guarantees a win for the rider who zaps it with their laser blaster. Purpose-built 7,000 sq ft (650 sq m) facilities have been erected at each park to house the 10-scene rides. Based on the client’s experience in California and Windsor, capacity has been increased to just over 1,000 riders per hour using 17 four-seater Jeep-style ride vehicles by Bertazzon.
Story Land Splash Battle
This summer visitors to Story Land, Glen, New Hampshire, were invited to cool off aboard Pharaoh’s Reign, a Splash Battle from Preston & Barbieri. Seated in brightly coloured river craft, riders use water cannons to blast other vessels as well as spectators roaming the perimeter. The new ride displaces the Slip-Shod African Safari ride that opened in 1971, but which is scheduled to re- appear with a fresh look in another area of the park’s African continent. Pharaoh’s Reign is set on a 6,100 sq ft (567 sq m) triangular footprint. The continuous moving boats travel through numerous interactions while cruising the 300ft-long (91m) waterway.
Viper
WhiteWater Megatube launched in Texas
NRH2O, a waterpark in North Richland Hills, Texas, has introduced the Viper, the first Megatube series slide from WhiteWater. The attraction features a series of twists, high- banking turns and heart-stopping drops, culminating in an enormous 20ft (6.1) diameter section. Riders enjoy the experience in two to four-person rafts. "We selected the Viper based on a customer survey which indicated that our guests wanted a ride that allowed them to share the experience with their family and friends,” notes NRH2O manager Chris Swartz. “Its high capacity shortens wait times, which keeps our guests happy.”
When the waterpark is open in the evenings, the Viper comes into its own with exciting lighting and sound effects, as seen above. Other waterpark attractions include an award-winning Master Blaster waterslide coaster, various body slides, a water playground and a children's play area.
