Sportech Broadcaster SIS has shown its commitment to greyhound racing with a donation to the Retired Greyhound Trust. S

IS has underlined its commit- ment to the greyhound industry with a donation to help dogs find homes after they finish rac-

ing. Around 9,000 greyhounds retire from racing each year and the Retired Grey- hound Trust, set up in 1975, has housed more than 50,000 dogs since then. SIS is an integral part of the greyhound in-

dustry, beamingBAGSgreyhound racing to bookmakers across the UK and Ireland and a key driver behind several initiatives in the industry recently. Now it has made a £25,000 donation to help the work of the RGT. The charity has more than 70 branches across the country run by volunteers dedicated to finding homes for the dogs in their areas. Philip Siers, MD of the SIS LBO Division,

said: “We are delighted to make this dona- tion to the Retired Greyhound Trust. The welfare of greyhounds is very important to us. We are very impressed with the work of

the Trust and the tireless efforts of its vol- unteers across the country. “I know that greyhounds are wonderful animals and make such great pets when they retire. I am sure that the Trust will put this donation to excellent use as it seeks to deliver its hugely important work.” Peter Laurie, CEO of the RGT, said: “We

are extremely grateful to SIS for this very generous donation. We are always delight- ed to receive industry support, and during these hard economic times it is even more invaluable. Greyhounds adapt so well to life in a home environment. This donation will be used to help our branches promote greyhounds as pets and find more homes for these lovely dogs.”

SIS and BAGS have decided to extend the trial of Sunday night greyhounds for a further three weeks following customer feedback. The service launched last month, with SIS FACTS extended to 9:30pm

and featuring dog racing from Sitting- bourne and Poole, along with thoroughbred horse racing from Latin America and virtual content. It was originally planned as a six- week free trial, but now customers have been given the opportunity for a longer look with the service running until the end of Au- gust.

Siers commented: “Sunday is now a core trading day for many bookmakers and this initiative can help provide an additional betting session. The extension gives cus- tomers the best possible opportunity to test out the new service.” Meanwhile, further abroad bookmakers in Asia have been given their first look at SIS’ new Virtual Betting Channel. The chan- nel, developed byInspired Gaming Group’s Virtual Sports division and produced and transmitted by SIS, went live in June, and provides shops with virtual horses, dogs and football. Speedway, cycling, lotto and

Mini Spin, will be launched soon and more sports are due on the channel this year. The VBC is already gaining traction in the UK and Ireland, with Boylesportsthe first major bookmaker to roll it out in their shops. SIS, represented by head of interna- tional business Antony Hopkins, and In- spired, represented by Nick Gardiner, showed off the new channel at the G2E Asia gaming expo in Macau. The VBC will broadcast more than 170 events each day from 8am to 10pm. The service is available to UK, Irish and interna- tional companies, as an additional or stand-alone channel via the SIS footprint. The service includes a full, live commentary from SIS to promote each event, provide useful statistics and add ‘real world’ excite- ment. All VBC events are supported by the SISdata365 feed and a free daily PDF race card service to those customers wishing to display form-guides.
