n May and June, thousands of new graduates joined the
ranks of Loyola alumni. Among the degrees conferred during commencement ceremonies were four honorary doctorates, given to distinguished individ- uals who embody the Loyola commitment to social justice and exemplary leadership:
• College of Arts and Sciences (Sciences): Thomas J. Dart (JD ’87), Cook County sheriff
• The Graduate School and Institute of Pastoral Studies: Margaret Dan- iels Tyler, executive director, Gates Millennium Scholars Program
• School of Law: Ignazio Francesco Caramazza, state advocate general of Italy
• Stritch School of Medicine: Bryan A. Stevenson, founder and executive director, Equal Justice Initiative

We can’t guarantee that the bouncers will honor your new GOLD status at nightclubs, or that airlines won’t kick you off your flight when you demand an upgrade to first-class because you’re GOLD, but you’ll know you deserve special treatment.
