AN HONOR AND A NEW CHALLENGE
Adolfo Nicolás, S.J., the superior general of the Society of Jesus, has tapped Father Garanzini to serve as the Secretary for Higher Education for the Jesuits begin- ning on September 1. This new role will be in addition to his continued service as president of Loyola. Father Garanzini will assist the Father General on a part-time basis, coordinating and championing Jesuit higher-education issues around the world. This includes:
• Creating and maintaining networks of research and common action among Jesuit universities
• Promoting the Jesuit mission and identity in Jesuit institutions
• Developing means of sharing the knowledge of Jesuit universities with those who have limited access to education around the world
“I am humbled by this appointment
Traditions — revived or created —are a point of emphasis under Father Garanzini. Incoming freshmen start their Loyola adventure by walking through the Cudahy Library doors. The Class of 2013, above, will be the first of many whose journeys will end at commencement, when they will be the first class to also exit through the same doors.
and recognize that the invitation to serve in this position is a reflection on the good work and commitment of everyone at Loyola to offer a transformative educa- tion in the Jesuit tradition,” says Father Garanzini.
