Daniel J. Kill (MSW ’74) is retiring as president and CEO of Thrive Counsel- ing Center in Oak Park, Illinois. Kill has dedicated 37 years of service to the agency as both an LCSW and CEO. He was honored at Thrive Counseling Center’s Annual Spring Benefit on April 29, 2011.


Thomas M. Shoewe (BBA ’74), former executive vice president and chief financial officer of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., joined the Board of Directors of KKRManagement, LLC, a general partner of KKR & Co., L.P., as an independent director. He was also appointed the firm’s managing partner and will serve on its Audit and Conflicts committees. KKR is a global investment firm.


Richard F. Afable MPH (BS ’75, MD ’78), president and chief executive officer of HoagMemorial Hospital Presbyterian, was named one of the “50Most Influential Physician Execu- tives in Health Care” on theModern Healthcare and Modern Physicians list.


P. Kevin Connelly (JD ’75), previ- ously with Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker LLP, has joined DLA Piper as Of Counsel for the firm’s labor and employment practice.


Patricia L. Kelly (MSN ’75) edited the third edition of Nursing Leadership and Management, 2011, Cengage Learning. She also retired as professor emeritus fromPurdue University Calumet, in Hammond, Indiana.


John M. Palizza (JD ’75), formerly as- sistant treasurer for investor relations and media relations for Sysco Corpo- ration, has joined Three Part Advisors, LLC, a strategic communications and consulting firm as an investor rela- tions and communications consultant.

Richard D. Felice (BA ’76)will lead the Illinois State Bar Association as president in 2014-15.


Linda Howe (MUND ’76) received the Coalition of Visionaries Resources Award for 2010’s #1 Best Alternative Spirituality Book, How to Read the Akashic Records: Accessing the Archive of the Soul and Its Journey. Her second book, Healing through the Akashic Records: Using the Power of Your Sacred Wounds to Discover Your Soul’s Perfec- tion, was released in April 2011.


Mary Morrow, RN, PhD, ACNS-BC (BSN ’76, MSN ’07) has been named the chief nursing officer at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital of Loyola Univer- sity Health System (LUHS).Morrow most recently served as the director of nursing administration for LUHS.


Sharon L. O’Keefe (MSN ’76), presi- dent of Loyola University Health Sys- tem, received the 2011 Renaissance Award fromResurrection College Prep High School. The award is given to individuals who have “exemplified the Renaissance spirit by embracing new ideas, independent thought, and classical values as well as excellence in their fields of endeavor.”


John P. Vail (BA ’77, JD ’80)was named among the top attorneys in Il- linois for 2011 by Illinois Super Lawyers magazine.


Francesca Maher Edwardson (BA ’78, JD ’81), chief executive officer of the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago, was elected to the board of directors for J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc.


Charles A. Amenta III (BS ’79) is re- releasing his book, Russell is Extra-Spe- cial: a Book about Autism for Children. First edition published in 1992, this is the third edition of the book. It is also one of the first children’s books about autism.


Richard E. Goulding (MD ’79), medi- cal director for Physhield Insurance Exchange, is now CEO of Real Ameri- can Brands, and will see the company through a change of operations and a 20 to 1 reverse stock split.
