Call for Papers Issued for 116th AFS has issued a call for papers for


the 116th Metalcasting Congress, to


be held April 17-20, 2012, at the Bat- telle Hall/Hyatt Regency Columbus, Columbus, Ohio. All papers must be relevant to the metalcasting industry, covering topics such as operations, new technologies, procedures, processes and other innovations, or casting design

and purchasing, and must contribute to the enhancement of metalcasting quality and productivity. Abstracts are due Aug. 1, and


complete manuscripts are due Sept. 15. Paper number assignment, offer and abstract form, authors guide and paper templates are available on the AFS website at www.afsinc.org under the


Metalcasting Congress heading. Sponsored by AFS, the Metalcast-


ing Congress is the largest annual gathering for metalcasters in North America.

2011 Safety Award Submissions Now Being Accepted AFS is accepting submissions for


two safety awards, the 2011 Metal- casting Safe Year Award and the 2011 Millionaires Safety Award. The Metalcasting Safe Year


Award commends AFS corpo- rate member facilities that have achieved an entire year without a lost-time accident. To qualify for the award, the milestone must have been reached on any day in 2011. The one-year count begins the day following the last lost-time acci- dent or, in some cases, the date the previous one-year milestone was reached. An entry form must be submitted to AFS by Jan. 31, 2012. The Metalcasting Safe Year Awards will be presented at the annual AFS Environmental, Health and Safety Conference, Aug. 14-15, 2012, in Nashville, Tenn. Te Millionaires Safety Award

AFS Piedmont, Texas Chapters Win CMI Chapter Competition


Te AFS Piedmont and Texas Chapters tied for first place in the 2010-2011 Cast Metals Institute (CMI) competition for highest chapter attendance at CMI classes. Te Pied- mont Chapter won for its attendance at the Analysis and Reduction of Casting Defects Seminar, October 26- 28, 2010, and the Texas Chapter was


recognized for its attendance at the Safety in the Foundry Seminar, March 8-9. Seventeen members from each chapter attended each course. Te chapters each won $1,000 and


three complimentary registration cer- tificates to any AFS or CMI course. Second place went to the Twin Cities Chapter for its attendance at Practical


Green Sand Control, March 8-9. Te British Columbia Chapter won third place for its attendance at Essential Leadership Skills, January 20-21. Te Twin Cities Chapter was


awarded $500 and two complimentary registration certificates, and the British Columbia Chapter received $250 and one certificate.
