patients. When you look at HealthPlus you also notice that the services are geared towards a certain requirement. Our first facility is geared towards women’s health as well and is a centre of excellence with subspecialties in obstetrics and gynaecology, all collaborating together to give the patient the best level of care and to help achieve the highest clinical outcome for the complex and challenging needs of women of all ages. HealthPlus Women’s Health centre is the first private medical centre to achieve JCI accreditation in Abu Dhabi. Our second facility is a highly specialized Fertility and Genetics centre, which rather than looking at a group of people from a certain gender, looks at an illness or a condition, which is usually infertility. It addresses the problem by bringing together all key components to help couples that are unable to conceive naturally. They also receive the necessary support to go on to having a healthy pregnancy and a healthy newborn. We will also have a speciality dialysis centre, which look at patients with
needs when it comes to renal dialysis. We are also looking at establishing a speciality dental health centre, which will have the sub-specialities under dental health all collaborating together to achieve the highest clinical outcomes.
Q. The IVF centre in Abu Dhabi has been recognised as one of the most sophisticated genetic laboratories in the UAE. What makes it stand out from other laboratory facilities? A. I think the single most important factor is the fact that HealthPlus’s new fertility centre is the first independent and free- standing facility to be opened following the new changes and regulations. The centre is composed of all the various elements

that support fertility, including a state-of- the-art operating theatre where we will be able to perform a number of day surgery procedures and to assist infertile couples through surgical interventions to deal with issues that may be preventing them from becoming pregnant. The centre is also supported by three specialized labs, which include an embryology lab, an andrology lab as well as a cryo-reservation unit. We have plans to expand this particular facility to offer pre-implementation genetics diagnosis services with a special focus on Thalassemia, which is very common in UAE national couples.
Q. How do you foresee the development of the healthcare sector in the Middle East and what is UEMedical’s role in that? A. The current healthcare sector is very fragmented; UEMedical can see the benefits that can derive from consolidating these facilities in order to leverage synergies in terms of operations. There is a huge trend internationally
