lobally, skin lesions affect tens of millions of people. A skin lesion is a superficial growth or patch of
the skin that does not resemble the area surrounding. It may take the form of bumps, blisters or a general sore. Many lesions are benign (such as moles or freckles), and some are the result of contagious viruses. Acrochordon “skin-tags” is a common type of benign skin lesion. Another is Molluscum Contagiosum, where a pox-related virus causes raised, pearl-like contagious papules or nodules on the skin. Warts (Verruca) and genital warts (Condyloma) are caused by a contagious virus infecting the skin and mucous membranes. The US Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates the Human Papilloma Virus type causing genital
warts infects 50% of men and women combined, since it is highly contagious and typically transferred via contact. In addition, 90% of HIV-infected men also have HPV infections. Currently, no cure for HPV exists. One of the current effective
treatments for benign skin lesions is cryosurgery. Dimethyl-Ether-Propane based Cryosurgery is a simple, effective and safe means of treating a wide variety of skin lesions. This “cold burn” with temperatures around -55°C, destroys abnormal tissue, and is proven to be highly effective, while avoiding known side effects such as pain, post-infection, permanent scarring or hypopigmentation associated with alternative methods. Histofreezer® is a clinically proven,
portable and easy-to-use cryosurgical system to remove common warts and benign lesions. It is patient friendly while providing resolution rates comparable to classical treatment methods, i.e. Liquid Nitrogen. ■
