QA with Mr. Majd Abu Zant, UEMedical

UEMedical has announced its plans to establish a network of premium outpatient health centres in Abu Dhabi under the name of HealthPlus. Each centre within the HealthPlus network will support the multiple missions of UEMedical, including outstanding patient care and extensive community outreach. Mr. Majd Abu Zant spoke to Arab Health magazine about HealthPlus’ aims to provide state-of-the-art outpatient medical services at 20 locations throughout the UAE capital, which will form part of an integrated healthcare delivery system set to include UEMedical’s flagship project, Danat Al Emarat Women and Children’s Hospital.

Q. Can you tell us about some of the recent projects UEMedical have worked on in the region, particularly the Danat Al Emarat Hospital? A. UEMedical’s focus in the last couple of years has been to establish an integrated healthcare delivery system in Abu Dhabi. The focus has been on Abu Dhabi because of the current changes from a regulatory perspective in terms of private health insurance, this has created a sudden spur and huge demand for healthcare services. This presents a tremendous opportunity,

a very high growth sector and a huge gap in terms of the number of beds and the number of facilities to cater to the population of Abu Dhabi. Our flagship project is of course Danat El Emarat Hospital, which is the first of its kind as a single speciality or as a specialized care facility focusing on women and children’s health. The hospital is built according to the most modern standards in evidence based healthcare design and will be managed by the world renowned Singaporean based operator “Parkway Health” with almost four decades of experience in healthcare management and healthcare operations.

Q. One of UEMedical’s main aims is to drive gender-centred care. Tell us a bit more about that? A. I think UEMedical’s aim is to drive value for all of its stakeholders so we are aiming to drive value to the client, to our patient. In creating and driving this value for our patients we look at their single and most important requirement or their core requirement, which is outcome. A patient comes to the healthcare facility seeking cure and treatment for their illnesses, so in driving clinical outcomes we have looked at a number of models that will help us deliver, create value and achieve the best outcome. Most of these approaches involve looking at individual diseases or looking at groups of patients to create a very focused approach. It’s also a very niche oriented approach which will look at targeting the specific needs with stronger support rather than targeting the general needs of a much larger group. So to that extent you see that our women and children’s hospital is a very focused clinical program, looking at creating and delivering value to women as well as paediatric
